Release the hounds!

We recently had to put down our dog Emma who lived with us for fifteen years.  That was not a good day.  She was such a companion to our family, she will always be remembered with great fondness.

Our other dog, Buddy, is still going strong at age eleven.  I had never had a Lab before, but man are they loveable!  Recently I read a piece on American made products for dogs and I wanted to share some of the companies with you.

First up is Dogbone food dishes made right here in Washington State.  The bowls come in four sizes, are chew resistant and are designed to slow down fast eaters (such as Buddy) and reduce dog ear contact with food & water.  Dogbone food dishes are made using food grade plastic.

There are loads of American made dog beds offered by Crypton home.  Some of my favorites are the William Wegman Posey Bed,

the Molly B Comfy Spot Bed,

and the Bed of Roses travel bed.

All these beds are stain, moisture and odor resistant, can be disinfected and feature removable cover that can be thrown in the washing machine.

In his earlier days, Buddy would test the strength of any collar and leash to which he was tethered.  If you need a collar and leash for your pooch, you should check out the Bison Company.  Bison web collars come in a range of widths to fit any dog and a myriad of colors and designs.  You can get leashes made out of web or leather.  Bison also offers water bowls, treat bowls and travel bowls.  Finally, if you need a belt, Bison offers a range of those for humans.

If you are going to the shelter to pick up a dog, I suggest you buy him/her an American made food dish, an American made bed and an American made collar and leash.  If you need any help naming your new dog, I have that for you as well.  The top ten dog names in America are Max, Baily, Buddy, Molly, Maggie, Lucy, Daisy, Bella, Jake, and Rocky.  Rocky, now that’s a name any dog could be proud of!

  1. I’m so sorry to hear about your beloved doggie. They are such a part of the family it’s so hard to let go.
These are great finds for All-American pets! I worked with Nylabone a few months back. Almost all of their products are made in NJ and my dogs love their chews!

Sorry about the delay in responding Sarah. Thank you for your condolences about Emma; she was truly a one of a kind pooch. But Buddy is pretty wonderful as well. I love your blog and enjoy reading each time you post. I never congratulated you for getting interviewed by CNN; what a feather in your cap! I wanted to let you know about a new organization, wearusa.org, that is starting in Seattle. Anyway, keep up the great work and all the best to you and your family in this new year!

      All the best,

      John Briggs
