One of the best things about writing my book, Simply American, Putting Our Extended American Family Back To Work and writing this blog has been the opportunity to read widely on all sorts of views on manufacturing in this country. Mind you, since I have a day job most of those opportunities have occurred at about 4:30 in the morning, but who’s complaining. I thought I would give you a list of interesting articles I have come across that examine manufacturing in this country. After you read a few, I would be really interested in your views on them.
2. The Plight of American Manufacturing: Very depressing article by Robert McCormick.
3. The Evolving Structure of the American Economy and the Employment Challenge: A thoughtful paper written by Nobel Laureate Michael Spence for the Council on Foreign Affairs about how the American economy is changing and the effect of these changes on the labor market and the cost of goods.
5. 35 Facts About The Gutting Of America’s Industrial Might That Should Make You Very Angry: I think the title says it all.
6. Wal Mart & China: A Joint Venture: A bit dated, but a very succinct history of Wal Mart’s role in offshoring.
I hope you find these articles as interesting as I did. Now get reading!
