I am an adequate cook.  My son Ben is one of those annoying people who can throw together all sorts of ingredients with no real recipe and produce delicious food.  Da nerve!  Anyway, cooking is a big deal here in Seattle and one of the first people to offer the cooks of Seattle the tools of the trade was Shirley Collins.  Ms. Collins founded Sur La Table in 1972, opening the store depicted above in Seattle’s Pike Place Market. Today, Sur La Table is the second-largest specialty cookware retailer in the US, after Williams-Sonoma.  Sur La Table means “for the table” in Francaise.

I was pleasantly surprised the other day when I noticed that Sur La Table had a new Made in America feature on their website.  They feature a lot of firms that I have previously done posts on like All Clad

So all I can say is “way to go Sur La Table!”  Many Sur La Table stores offer cooking classes, so if I want to try to become as good a cook as Ben, I know where to go.  And I will just make sure that anything I cook with is made by members of our extended American family.  Now that’s a winning recipe!
