It’s never too early to plan next summer’s naps

napping

Napping is pretty high on my list of things I like to do.  There is the nap on the couch while watching golf.  When I nodded off, Nicklaus was on the second tee.  When I regain consciousness, he is on the fourteenth tee.  Nice.  Outdoor napping is napping in its purest form.  Sunny yes, but I have some shade for my head.  Admiring the garden, then slipping into slumber.  Dreamy.  If one is planning some upcoming summer naps, one will of course sleep more soundly if your hammock is made by members of our extended American family.

Pawley Island Hammocks

Pawley Island Hammocks are made on Pawley Island, on the “Hammock Coast” area of South Carolina.  Pawley Island Hammocks were invented by Captain Joshua John Ward in 1889, and are still made by relations of Cap’n Josh.  You can buy four types of Pawley Island Hammocks.  Being fairly old school, I would opt for the original rope hammock.

Other choices are the quilted fabric hammock,

the soft weave hammock,

and the poolside hammock.

Hatteras Hammocks

Hatteras Hammocks is not as old a firm as Pawley Island Hammocks, but they make some pretty snazzy hammocks.  Hatteras Hammocks were invented by Mr. Walker P. Perkins Jr. and are the brutes of the hammock world.  Hatteras Hammocks use DuraCord® , rather than cotton rope, since it is very soft, but won’t rot over time like some cotton ropes can.  Hatteras Hammocks uses cumaru wood for the all important spreader bars at both ends of its hammocks.

Hatteras Hammocks offers five types of hammocks.  DuraCord®  Rope Hammocks,

the cushy Tufted Hammocks,

the Quilted Hammock,

the Pillowtop Hammock,

and last but not least, the Soft Weave Hammock.

So before prime napping season is upon us (June-September), make sure you are prepared to take part in the Great American Napping Tradition.  Order a Pawley Island or Hatteras hammock.  Position it strategically in the back yard.  Lie to your family members, telling them that you are off running errands.  Lower yourself into your new hammock and drift away.  You will sleep well because your new American made hammock will be a quality, well designed, well constructed product.  And just as importantly, you will know that your purchase has helped provide employment to members of our extended American family working at Pawley Island Hammocks and Hatteras Hammocks.  So have a great nap!  Just don’t drool on your pillow.
