I’m all afflutter

It is a rather dreary, rainy day in Seattle today.  But the first day of Spring is less than a month away, so we are on the back side of winter.  Spring signals many things, one of which is birds laying eggs.  Most migratory birds lay eggs in the Spring.  Robins lay eggs all the time because they don’t migrate.  If you want to encourage birds to nest in your back yard, you should consider putting up some nest boxes.  If you are handy, you can make them yourself.  But if you aren’t, you can buy nest boxes.  And of course if you want to make your American birds top egg producers, you need to put up nest boxes made by members of our extended American family.  And now you can.

Todd Lipscomb of Made in USA Forever recently feature a slew of great “Fly Away Home” nest boxes made in America at Chattanooga Goodwill Industries, Inc work training program.  The nest boxes are made of durable cedar, are very reasonably priced, and look great.  You can get a blue bird nest box,

a wren nest box,

a Chickadee nest box,

or if birds aren’t your thing maybe a bat house.

Whatever house you select, you will feel great for two reasons.  First you will be helping migratory birds have a secure nesting place, which is great since many migratory birds need some help.  Second, your purchase will help provide work for members of our extended American family working at Chattanooga Goodwill Industries, Inc.  If you buy a bird box and want to share your bird family news with others, consider contacting Cornell University’s Nest Watch program.  Who knows, soon you will have a lot of new members our extended American family to tell us about.
